Welcome to Advanced Drivers and Riders Tynedale

If you are interested in checking out how good your driving or riding skills are and improving them, then you have come to the right place.

Our Group

Our group was set up in December 2013 by Alan Nelson a retired motor patrol police officer (see Meet the Team page). Alan says “I saw some terrible and tragic accidents on the roads during my career, many of which could have been prevented if drivers had taken a little more care”. We are accredited to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents – RoSPA – under their RoSPA Advanced Drivers and Riders banner – RoADAR www.roadar.org.uk

Our Team

Our team of volunteer tutors have all passed their Advanced Driving Test at Gold or Silver Standard and have then gone on to do tutor training, which is constantly updated and on-going and under the auspices of RoSPA. Our tutors take members out in (or on) their own vehicles and are all members of the committee which runs the group. (see Meet the Team page).
If you have a car or motorbike which is legally on the road, and you hold a full driving licence and are insured then you can improve your driving skills with us. Your car can be manual or automatic and your motorbike can be any cc size

Our Aim

Our aim is to improve the driving standards and confidence of members through driving sessions with tutors sitting alongside members who are using their own car, or monitoring those on their motorbike. At our monthly meetings we learn about driving techniques, recognition of likely hazards, safety issues, changes to the law relating to driving and riding and also enjoy other’s company. We also aim to have at least a couple of social events each year (see What’s On page)
